IVT Announces Cast, Two Weekend Performances of ‘On Golden Pond’

Just as Hollywood celebrated the biggest night in television and film this past weekend, Indian Valley Theatre (IVT) is preparing to “roll out the red carpet” for its upcoming rendition of Golden Globe winning Best Motion Picture (drama), “On Golden Pond” in March.

Directed by Matthew Johnson, written by Ernest Thompson, with rights by Dramatist Play Service, Inc., IVT’s “On Golden Pond” will feature the following cast hailing from the Fox Valley area: R. Scott Purdy from St. Charles as “Norm,” Autumn Burns from Geneva as “Ethel,” Heidi Swarthout from Oswego as “Chelsea,” Jon Witt from Naperville as “Bill,” Bill Griffith from Plainfield as “Charlie,” and Morgan Miller from Elburn as “Billi.”

“On Golden Pond”  is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the 48th year. They are visited by their divorced, middle-aged daughter, Chelsea, and her dentist fiancé, Bill, who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage daughter, Billi, behind for the summer. The girl quickly becomes the “grandchild” for whom the elderly couple have longed.

In the end, as the summer wanes, so does their brief idyll, and in the final, deeply moving moments of the play, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Time, they know, is now against them, but the years have been good and, perhaps, another summer on Golden Pond still awaits.

“On Golden Pond” will be performed for two weekends: Friday, March 2 at 7:30 pm, Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, March 4 at 2:00 pm, plus Friday, March 9 at 7:30 pm, Saturday, March 10 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, March 11 at 2:00 pm. All performances will take place at the Historic Sandwich Opera House, 140 E Railroad St. in Sandwich, IL. Tickets are $15 each in advance and can be purchased online at  www.indianvalleytheatre.com or $18 at the door if seats are available up to 30 minutes before curtain.
