Indian Valley Theatre “DON’T HUG ME” – Cast Member Spotlight

The Minnesota love story “Don’t Hug Me,” will be presented by Indian Valley Theatre at the end of February at the historic Sandwich Opera House. It is directed by Sharon Pagoria and Matthew Johnson; written by Phil and Paul Olson; with Book and Lyrics by Phil Olson; Music by Paul Olson; and rights by Samuel French.

IVT would like to introduce Jen Ketchum, playing the role of Clara Johnson. Clara is the wife of Minnesota Bar owner, Gunner Johnson, who she has been married to for a LONG time and a former Winter Carnival Bunyan Queen. According to the character description, Clara is actually the CO-OWNER of “The Bunyan.”

Jen is making her theatre debut with Indian Valley Theatre. She performed in several productions when she was a student at Paw Paw High School. She auditioned for “Don’t Hug Me” after hearing about IVT from a friend and decided to get back into music and “Take a Chance” at theatre. Jen explains, “Because I have traveled and fished in Northern Minnesota, I figured I could fit in playing the part of a bar owner in the North Woods.” Jen feels she is very similar to Clara “because they are both strong strong-willed women.” However, where Clara does NOT want to move to Florida, Jen would LOVE to move there if given the chance! She is “enjoying her first experience with IVT, meeting and getting to know new people and what is involved in putting together this production of “Don’t Hug Me.”

“The script is quirky and is a bowl of laughs”, Jen continues. “In fact, it is definitely a challenge not to laugh during rehearsal!”

Jen attended NIU where she was a member of the University Choir and holds a BA in Business Communications. She is employed as an Office Manager at U.S. Specialty Packaging in Aurora. She lives in Sandwich with her husband Jay and son Nolan. She enjoys gardening, photography and Zumba.

Jen would like everyone to come see Indian Valley Theatre’s production of “Don’t Hug Me” “because it is her First Time onstage! It’s also the perfect opportunity for a date night…so come and rekindle your romance at “The Bunyan!”

Indian Valley Theatre welcomes Jen and invites the public to come meet her and all the other cast members of “Don’t Hug Me.”  Tickets are now available for $15 each and can be purchased online, at the Sandwich Opera House, or at the door. “Don’t Hug Me” is directed by Sharon Pagoria and Matthew Johnson; written by Phil and Paul Olson; with Book and Lyrics by Phil Olson; Music by Paul Olson; and rights by Samuel French.
